can he kick it... oh yes he can

hey all

another busy busy day.

went to visit phil this morning - he used to work in publicity at disney and has met all the great classic movie stars: joan crawford, bette davis, audrey hepburn, marilyn monroe, david niven, tony curtis, laurence oliver... we talk about movies a lot!

then off to visit michael again today for a hospital appointment this time. we decided to take his new wheelchair/walker and leave his old walker at home. so we go to get in the cab and we can't figure out how to collapse the new wheelchair/walker and it's like 90 degrees and so humid today so we give up and i take the chair back to the lobby...

so we get to the hospital and i grab a wheelchair that's hanging around and off we go. then i have to wait for around 2 hours in a freezing cold waiting room - but this was the view i had of FDR highway and the east river:

so i read the chapter of john's book that he's lent me which makes me laugh and feel sad and then i finish that and stare out the window at the boats going up and down the river and have a bit of a think - then i nearly have a nap and then michael's finished having a cortisone shot in his hip (ouch!) and we get back to his apartment building and i leave him with his friend while i dash off to see janice...

i get to janice's at 4.45 and i stay with her til 6pm - she's such a doll - a bit deaf - but with my foghorn voice we manage to get along famously. this is janice and she's just lovely:

janice's grandson is coming over later with his girlfriend, so i go off home to have some food and a quick lie down...

oops! little sleepy there - wake up and get my head together and then i'm off out the door and i have to take a bus downtown and then across town to get to the lincoln center to see a free gig with robert glasper (a jazzer) with his 'experimental' band - nice but a bit too noodly for me and the guy with his voice going through the keyboard round his neck just did my head in.

i'm just waiting for q-tip to be honest... and then he comes on and it's obvious that everyone's been waiting for him. he's such a legend but he only does 2 songs... still it's worth it - he's warm and sweet and perfect for a hot night in nyc...

ok, i recorded a bit... not sure if this works:

then off for a beer with steve and then waited for ever for a crosstown bus but it had the friendliest bus driver ever, but gave up waiting for an uptown bus so i shared a cab with this old guy that's waiting at the bus stop who loves my accent and then proceeds to do another dick van dyke style english accent - i just smile and then the cab stops and we share the fare and then i'm home...

off to bed...
